Q: Black Bubble Gum Goo on Windshield 200 89

89, 245 DL

145,000

The other day I purchased one of those Nylon Sunshades for my dash and keep the inside of the car relatively cooler. It worked fine for a few days, but then I noticed that there was this black colored, sticky, gooey stuff getting on the edges of the nylon. When I looked closer I saw that this goo was coming from all around the inside of the window, at the edges where the rubber sealing is or is supposed to be. The bottom of the inside window is okay, with rubber tubing and no goo. But the sides and top are oozing this stuff out. It keeps coming and coming ... I can imagine what all you guys are thinking - Okay, no wisecracks guys. He he he.

I scraped and used Zylol to get most of it off, but no matter how many times I try to wipe it for a final cleaning, the rag keeps getting black. I'm thinking of removing the plastic guard edges and pushing it all back in further with a razor blade type tool.

The former owner of my 245 told me that the car had been in a front end collision and repaired. I suspect that the windshield had gotten smashed and the repair shop either put in the wrong inside window adhesive, or forget to also put a rubber tubing seal over the caulk. I don't know as I have nothing to compare it to, except our 91, 740, which has no goo anywhere.

I was thinking of just covering it with a clear or black silicone, or a thin rubber tubing similar to what is on the inside bottom. Anyone know what this is, what to do, etc?

Thank you all,

Robert
