I have posted this mesage before and believe that the best way to know what you are getting into is to take the car to a respected mechanic who is experienced in working on the Volvo model you are considering.
Get the mechanic to check all components - engine, suspension, cooling, transmission, electronics, etc. for wear & defects and get an estimate for repairs.
700's have a lot more sensors, modules and other electronic gizmos that can give trouble so budget accordinly if you purchase. My 760 Turbo is a pleasure to drive but I found over a 4 year period that maintenance costs are at least double that of a 240. It comes with the territory - higher tech costs more.
The main computer module is expensive for 700's - I know a couple of people who have had to replace that and Nivomat shocks are also pricy to replace. The 700's are also known for electrical glitches here & there. Doesn't mean you shouldn't buy - just prepare for these things in advance.
It's still way cheaper to drive a Volvo than buy a new car and pay depreciation and other costs.
