speedo cable questions 200 1985Ti

hi,

my speedo cable needs replacing. in talking with the parts guy at my volvo dealer he told me there are actually two speedo cables, not just one. apparently there's a short one off the back of the dash and another longer one that goes through the firewall. is this right that there are actually two cables? i was under the impression that there is only one. thanks for any help anyone might have.
