Where to Locate Sender for Water Temp Gauge? 700 89

I have an aftermarket water temperature gauge that I want to install. I do not want to remove the stock sender. I have no plugged holes in the head (94 B230FT). I have my eye on the heater hose. I have a 1/2 inch brass Tee fitting that I could insert in the heater hose. The sender would go in a bushing in the top of the Tee.

Would the heater hose from the head work better than the hose from the water pump? Is there coolant circulating in both those hoses when the heater valve is closed as it is now (not using heat in the summer)?

The thermostat housing is a possibility, but might not be such a good location when the thermostat is closed. The lower or middler radiator hose is another possibility, but both are on the cool side of the cooling system and would not tell me as well the temperature of the coolant in the block.
