Hello all.
I have an issue with my 1970 1800 I am having difficulty with. There are many symptoms, but I suspect they are all related. The car has the d-jet FI system. Bless it's underrated, ornery heart...
Once the car warms up, it tends to skip at lower rpms. The tach will dip and return to normal in sync. This does not happen as much at higher rpms. It will miss while accelerating thru about 3500, at which point it stops doing it as much.
This seems like an issue with the throttle switch. IT is just over 1 year old. How fast do these wear out?
Also, it runs hotter than usual. Still low, but the temp will soar when I'm stopped at a light on a hot day. The gauge rises very quickly, then slowly goes down once I am moving again. Is this an issue with the gauge or the cooling? The thermostat is rated at 180 degrees. It also heats up fast in the morning. This would have been nice in the winter, but it's getting hotter by the day here now. The radiator was totally boiled and rodded out about 2 years ago.
The points and plugs are around 2 months old and were properly adjusted at that time. I plan to go the electronic ignition route before long, anyway. Fuel filter is el-cheapo Fram job, but ipd had the Bosch ones on sale so they are on their way.
So why the buck-and-lurch? This sounds like textbook throttle switch, but I'm not so sure. I'm going to look at it again later today. Any other thoughts?
As always, any help is appreciated very much.
