Strombergs have diaphragms that rot and get holes in them.
Strombergs have a bypass valve that you can't adjust.
Strombergs have a temperature compensating valve that
gets gummed up and the manual says get a new one ($$$)
(you CAN clean and adjust it!)
SU's don't have any of these.
SU's DO have a means of easily figuring out if the mixture
is off.
SU's DO have a means of easily adjusting the mixture while the
engine is running.
SU's have a good source of parts available in the US.
Strombergs don't.
SU's are pretty much a bolt-on change from Strombergs.
If everything is PERFECT Strombergs may be very slightly
better than SU's but that is a mighty rare situation in
my experience. When the Strombergs are screwed up, even
if you can figure out what the problem is, if you can adjust
it out, it is a very tedious process.
Besides that, Strombergs are as ugly as a mud fence!

140s are straightforward, rugged, safe, have a TREMENDOUS
trunk, and are usually easy to fix. (See Tom Irwin's posts
over the past couple/three weeks!)
They are also cheap. If you rebuild the engine and the
upholstery, maybe put in some door seals, it'll last forever.
(Might want to clean and oil the heater fan motor too.)
