stuck hood release cable 200 1986

hi gang

i cannot pop my hood using the release cable. i managed to get the hood open manually, but would appreciate any suggestions as to troubleshooting before going ahead and replacing the cable. (i have not yet determined whether or not the cable is intact as i have no extra pair of hands around to help out). will lubing the cable be of any help?
