Motor/5 spd tranny mount question 200 89

Just installed my first motor mount (passenger side) and tranny mount (pain in the a$#!). The motor mount was deformed and the threaded posts on each end were offset quite a bit. The new Scantech mount was very symetrical

Q: In the Haynes manual, it says to use "rubber preserver" on the motor mount- what is this? I think that the location of the oil filter will definitely cause some dripping on the mount. Other than the plastic bag trick on the filter, was curious if anyone uses any chemical compounds on the mounts.

Q: Even with the motor mount and tranny mount, I still get a slight pivoting/twisting from the engine, which causes the shifter knob to move right a couple inches when starting up and hitting the accelerator suddenly. Is this normal for 5 speeds? Could the driver's side mount be causing this?

Thanks!
