The B23E leaves nice valve shaped rings in the carbon, but because the angle between the piston and valve is zero it does no damage. (Yet) The only reson I know this is from changing a head with a scrubbed and seized can journal. I have changed lots of belts after breaking but have never had to do a valve grind on one.
