Speedometer problems.......revisited and solved 200 1989

I posted yesterday with a problem of no speedometer/odometer after removing the instrument cluster on the '89 245. I had been looking over a wiring problem inherited from the previous owner as well as a non functioning teperature gauge.

When I had removed the screws (7) that hold the housing and circuit board together I had also loosened the four screws that hold the speedometer against the board. I didn't realize it at the time but that allowed the speedometer to drop away from the board enough to disengage the three pin connection between the speedometer and the board. When I eased the speedometer into position and tightened the screws the three pins missed lining up to make the connection resulting in a nonfunctioning speedometer and odometer. It became obvious when I worked my way backwards and revisited yesterday's mistakes.

The elimination of the compensation board from the cluster immediately resulted in a functioning temperature gauge. It was simply achieved by soldering a jumper wire in its place. I will perform the same procedure on the 88 and 89 240 sedans when time permits. I had kept the explaination of the elimination of the comp board, but failed to keep the poster's name. Thanks to whoever that poster may be.
