Source of engine knock found!!! 700 90

A few months ago I had posted for help finding a knock which was slowly driving me over the edge. It was directly in sync with engine rotation, but oil pressure was perfect and was occasional. Sometimes more noticeable when turning a corner. I looked at all the suggested points, used my trusty stethoscope, but no luck. Had asked if transmission or flex plate could be it---answer no.

Today I had car up on ramps, removed trany inspection plates and the aluminum bracing in front of the bellhousing and just under the engine. At first could find nothing until I rotated the engine and flex plate. There it was. The flex plate is cracked, small holes in it and about to blow. Cracks are right around the area where crank mates to the flex plate.

So, am dropping trany tomorrow, replacing rear crank seal (leaking) and its housing. Have a good flex plate from a 94. Hope to get a pic of the plate.

Flex plates can make a knocking sound. If you overhaul or replace main seals, inspect the flex plate for cracks.

Another success----I'm happy!!
