trunk material question 200 75

Hi bricksters!

One of my summer projects was finally restoring the rusted out wheel wells the proper way. I've become intimatly familiar with the por-15 products and can testify to the amazing results.

My question involves the asphalt-like material laid in the bottom of the trunk. Certain areas had allowed water to undermine the stuff in places so I scrapped it all away and did the rust thing with the por-15 underneath. Now that the trunk is essentially waterproof, I'm wondering if I should find some replacement material for this stuff. My question is --is this stuff just waterproofing--is it just sound proofing-- gas fume reduction-- or even some heat amd/or flame suppression in case of fire( I can't imagine considering the material itself)

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. I hope everyone had a productive summer.

Thanks, Gregg
