Air Conditioning Blues - 245 Continued 200 92

Dear Brick Owners and DIY lovers,

Thanks for all the valuable information about air conditioning and possible solutions.

I'm a proud owner of the 92-245, she only has 132,000 miles and is running strong. I saw one gentleman has 300,000 plus on his beast- my wife and I would love to make our war wagon last that long.

I put some bad info in my first post- one of the two condensors was an estimate- goof- we've had one condensor put in, wife informs me the A/C shop believes our slow leak is behind the dash- ie in the evaporator- but he was willing to put freon into the system.

I suspect the oily smell I had while driving is the lubricant in the system coming out. I turned on the a/c and the clutch is still engaging or as I would say- pulling a load- don't know if the system has any freon in it- asked the wife NOT to use system at all- afraid of burning out some components.

Going to the a/c shop today and talking with the "best expert" I can find about my options- will discuss the freeze 12 option- my understanding from posters is freeze 12 is usable with 134a system- will have my shop explain what was done back in August of last year- 134a conversion???

Has a DIY person done the evaporator themselves and how tough was it--the wife and I changed out the 83 heater/blower motor while overseas and it was a hell of a job- I don't think we ever got the heating/ a/c controls working perfectly again- still loved the car.
