I probably should have expected this, but I was still really damn shocked. I recently put a 'K' cam in my car, found my valve clearance to be way tight, so I needed shims. While I was at it I thought I'd get the small rubber caps that go on the back of the valves (called valve absorbers I believe) since mine had deteriorated badly. Turns out the 8 shims I needed which are essentially solid metal washers, plus the rubber pieces, cost me $80! This is nearly THREE TIMES the cost of the camshaft that started this whole wild goose chase!
Alright point is. I want to find a place that sells cheaper shims, and I'm talking cheap, not cheap for a rich guy cheap. The shims I bought cost $6.85 a piece. Turns out they were too small too so now my car's pretty loud compared to before. But since this is sort of a follow up to previous 'k' cam posts, my car does have its idle and low speed power back, but since either the haynes told me the wrong shim size or I just measured wrong AGAIN, the shims are maybe .05 mm off and I need another set. Anyone know where I could get some for cheap? I'm thinking of scamming the dealer by keeping the current shims till I get another set, then taking them back there. They don't wear out, and those guys ripped me off anyways.
Help? thanks for the information. You guys really helped me with the 'k' cam swap problems, and I'm almost done fixing the stuff it messed up. As soon as everything is sorted I'll try to find out who I owe a candy bar.
