Coming home from a long trip on our vacation my A/C went out. I have read the recent posts for 245s which helped but wanted to ask if anyone could help with my problem with our 92 745.
When the A/C quit working I pulled over and noticed a strong odor around the car which I assume was the freon escaping. Does freon have a smell?
The A/C compressor started to make noise after the incident, and continues to sound like ball bearings are bouncing around inside. I took off the belt and noticed that the compessor pulley could be easily spun with no resistance. Are these signs that the compressor is shot?
There is signs of oil spray around the compressor so I am assuming that the compressor froze up, or an internal seal failed and the freon escaped at the pulley. Is this a possible senario or should I look for a leaking hose?
I have never tackled the A/C system but may try after reading previous posts. I am pretty sure that I no longer have any freon in my system, so I should be able to disassemble. What would be the recommended parts to replace before having it recharged- compressor, dryer?
Thanks for any help
