Brake pads 200 84

I heard a rumor that 240's are hard on their brake pads. The person said his friend with a 240 wagon had to replace his pads every 12-15,000 miles. I've had my 240 for only 7K. Do I have to worry about this or is sombody trying to blow smoke up my backside?
