My perennial check engine light is reported by the dealer to be due it needing a new EGR solenoid, about $100 for the part and $30 for the labor. If true, the pricing tells me the labor is easy and I can get the part elsewhere for much less. The mechanic also said it doesn't affect anything except it will likely be unable to pass CA emissions (NOX?) without fixing.
Where is the EGR solenoid and are there any special considerations to replace?
Minor rant: BTW, I dropped $300 during that visit to the dealer for several things I probably could have done myself. I asked to talk to the mechanic in an attempt to have him point out some things (such as where the EGR solenoid is)and you would have thought I wanted to see OZ. Finally they took me back to the repair area and when I asked the mechanic where this solenoid is, he stood back about 10 feet from the car and pointed to the engine compartment! Thanks to him, I think it is under the hood somewhere. Unfortunately the dealer is very close to my office (convenient) and the Indy's are a long ways away.
