Hi
I'm a long time Volvo person who has purchased my first 140 - a 71 142S.
It has almost no paint left on it and a little rust, but it has one of the smoothest running B20's I've ever heard and only 114,000 miles.
I have a few questions:
Carbs:
It does not have Strombergs - it has a pair of bizarre single barrel down draft Zenith carbs on it. The fuel bowls are to the side and the air intakes are on top. Instead of "air filters" it has a pair of Mann Volvo Penta "Backfire Flame Arrestors" fitted! I've never seen a set up like this. Does anyone have a clue? Are these boat engine carbs? I'll take some pictures and post them to my website.
One cool aspect is the intake manifold for this setup is tiny.
Wheels/tires
It has the slotted steel wheels with the small chrome hubcap that bolts to the wheel with a phillips head bolt.
Are these wheels 4.5" wide or 5" wide? Are these the same wheels that were on the 72/73 1800's (with a different hubcap)? also what was the original wheel color for this wheel - standard vintage Volvo light battleship grey?
the existing tires are very dry rotted - 165 R15's
do these tires have an aspect ratio of 80, 83, or 85?
I'm trying to calculate replacement tire size options.
Windshield wipers
I need blade refills for the original ANCO blades. Who has these?
Finally - I need good parts sources for "the forgotten volvo".
I've been spoiled by years of 240 and 1800 ownership. Is there a Don Thibalt for 140's??????
