factory rack - has to go!!! 200 1988

Hi all,

Don't worry - I have no intention of crushing, smashing, burning, or flaying anything on my 240 and blaming one of you for it. I would like some advice on removing the butt ugly dealer installed roof rack on my

brick. There are three reasons to do this:

1. i'm seeing rust develop at the contact points of the screws and

sheet metal.

2. the factory rack is ugly as hell.

3. re-emphasising the point #2 - the factory rack is UGLY AS HELL!!!

4. looking to replace with a Thule/Yakima

My initial intention is to remove, sand, fill in with fiberglass, have

the roof painted. I've never done this before and would appreciate some

advice. (no disclaimers necessary - my IQ surpasses 75) Thanks.
