Leak proofing sunroof 700 87

Hello bricksters,

It has been said with the "early production" models of the 740, the entire sunroof mechanism, including the base plate, must be removed from the car in order to change the sunroof headliner The given reason: it will leak if you dont. Apparently the sunroof mechanism is sealed in the base plate and will leak if not properly resealed.

The bottom line is , according to this info, if I want to change the sunroof headliner, or the mechanism ,then I must remove the headliner that

I recently struggled so hard to install.

Has any one had experience with this? What about just pulling out the mechanism and applying a bead of sealent to the mechanism before resinstallation?

Could someone describe "early production".

All Comments, opinions, significations, sworn testimonies, and hear say testimonies, accepted. I will sort it all myself.

Thanks
