Obsessed man seeks mentor 1800 71-73

I am looking to acquire an 1800ES as a project car. I REALLY wanted to buy a new one whenthey came out but the finances weren't there.

But now the finances are available and I have been dreaming of having an 1800 for years and also having a project car, so I can can satisfy both desires this way!

Some of you have already traveled this road. I would like to correspond with all of you who are willing to share your experience and insight.

If there is anyone within 400 miles of Omaha, NE with a project in progress I would REALLY like to hook up with them.

My intention is to do a "Frame-off" magnitude restoration of the body and running gear. However, even though I am intending to make everything as new as possible, I realize that there may be damage/rot in some critical area that would make the project unwise to pursue.

My first question is, what damage/rust situation might exist that would make even a free shell to expensive to fix?

second. How availble is the windshield and rubber, back glass and rubber?

third. does anyone ever do an engine swap in these cars (I am not looking to RESTORE the car in the concours sense, I am looking to have the body perfect but the running gear as hot as can be obtained with a small degree of reliability. If I end up with an IPD warmedup version of the B20, that will be OK, too.

That's about all for now. Write direct to chuck_petterson@excite.com.

TIA,

chuck
