Replaced Pickup Coil 700 1986

I just replaced my pickup coil on the 86 740 gle(non-turbo)4 cyl b230ft fi. I am having a time getting the timing back.It would'nt start at all at first so I thought it was 180 out. I turned it all around and set the cc to tdc 0. Then it appeared the rotor was on 1 on the distributor,if it goes 1342 from left to right. Then cranked it but getting exhaust sputter and just idles rough. I found the #2 spark plug wire to be no good and am picking a set up tommorrow. I am still not convinced that is the problem though. Anyone have any thought on what I need to recheck or just a quick run through on the proper way to reset the distributor,etc.. I still wonder if I handled the rotor button placement correctly.
