Engine Fire, aka Sux 2 B me! 700 1989

Well my 1989 740 gle 16-valve B234F had a fire in the engine compartment Friday afternoon about 1:50 pm MST. Not sure if the fire was electrical in nature or not. There is evidence of an oil leak under pressure with an Aerosol effect. The previous owner had installed an aftermarket oil filter mount that had 2 hoses from the motor, that would make 4 connections that could have leaked, or a burst hose, tho the hoses were in great shape. I looked in the engine on wednesday as I filled the washer reservoir, there was no evidence of an oil leak at the time, and the driveway was dry.

The electrical harness is melted down, along with some of the fuel injection system, distributor, spark plug wires, the hood and sound insulation is cooked. The resulting direct ground of the battery could have fried the ECU along with other systems.

I will get an estimate for the engine repair next week. The hood repaint will be a separate issue.

I will keep you guys posted on this headache if you want.

Bud
