Re: A/C Belt Adjustment 200 81

John, I believe you may have inadvertently turned the two shim procedures around. My manual says: to loosen the belt, add shims between the two pulley halves; to tighten the belt, remove shims. This is a really awkward way to adjust belt tension isn,t it?

I just replaced my AC belt recently and got the darn thing on by: leave the two pulley halves as loose as possible with only two pulley screws holding it together and these barely threaded in, place the AC belt on the two pulleys, put a socket wrench on the crankshaft and turn the shaft while alternating tightening the pulley screws on the side away from the belt. This walks the tight belt up onto the pulley with no damage. When the two pulley screws are tight, I replaced the remaining pulley screws. Also, it is very important to save any unneeded shims by bolting them on the outside of the pulley under the six pulley screws. Someday they will be needed when you put on a new belt.
