I think you may have dead spots on your flywheel teeth. If the starter spins but does not crank the engine the teeth are not engaging. It has not happened to me but I recall someone saying this can cause the solenoid to jam in the engaged postition which would cause it to keep spinning. I had dead spots on my 75. When the starter engaged on a dead spot it made a horrible grinding sound
