Spider gears 700 1987

Hey everyone

Our 87 740 has slop in the pin and spider gear. It really clangs moving from neutral to anywhere. Is there a part source other than volvo for these parts. The shop said that replacement is not technical as long as you don't touch the ring or pinion gear. Would replacing the pin and spider have half a chance being a long term repair for a car with 270K or is it likely more rear problems are waiting to show up. Would like to make this as worthwhile as possible. Thanx
