2 questions in one! Difficult start/broken mount 200 78

Since I bought the car 2 days ago, I have a feeling I'll be posting a lot in the future. Here it goes......

One- As I was driving home yesterday, I lost power steering on my left turn and it started making a loud eeking noise(still only when I turned left). On inspection the mount is cracked down the middle and the belt etc are loose now. What could cause the power steering mount to break in half?

My second question involves not getting any fuel when starting. Everything turns over and sounds good but I have to pump i.e. floor the accelerator for a bit to get it going and then it trys to stall as it warms. Once its warm everything smooths out fine and it idles okay but if I turn the car off, we have to through the whole process again-even if its just been a couple of minutes. A friend mentioned the temperature sensor being a potential problem but I guess I was thinking more of the fuel relay system being the problem..... Since the obvious answer never solved the problem with my last Volvo(RIP), I figured I would ask around.....
