steering u-joints clicking 700 1992

On the 700\900 series cars there are two sets of u-joints on the steering column between the the firewall and the rack. My 92 745t is making a clicking noise when I turn the steering wheel so one or both of the u-joints are starting to wear and\or loose lubrication. My question is this: In the experience of brick owners, does the uppper or lower u-joint tend to go south first or is it a toss up. I plan on replacing both eventually, but I like to know this kind of stuff for future reference. Any and all feed back would be appreciated, as always.
