Replacing shocks any tips? 200 82

Hey all,

The previos owner of my wife's 242ti installed heavy duty shocks at the rear and it yeilds a jarring ride that wifeypoo complains about.

I'm off to auto zone to get the cushiest shocks I can get. According to Haynes (yes I'll get a bently soon, I promise) it looks pretty straight forward, I'm concerned about when I get the old shocks off how I get the new shocks on. What I mean is that if the shocks are delivered in a compressed state with a binder around it how do I install them? Do I need to push up on the axl? I'm not sure what to expect. I'm sure I can do this but I'm just trying to prepare myself so that I have all the tools and stuff I need so that I can do the job without having to stop and go buy something.
