"Ticking" noise from 16 valve 700 1989

Hello,

Today I noticed a ticking noise (sort've like a valve tap?) coming from my engine while the car was idling in a parking space. It's undetectable from inside the car but when you are near the front of the car it can be heard quite clearly. I have heard that the hydraulic lifters in the 16 valve are noisey compared to other Volvos, but is this normal?

Thanks,

Matthew C. Hall
