depends on how long you think you might be gone.

For an extreme situation, say over 2 years...

Put the car up on 4 jackstands

Fill the tank and add a proper amount of Sta-Bil or another fuel stabilizer

Remove the spark plugs, squirt a bunch of motor oil in, and reinstall

store indoors

put the battery on an automatic maintenance-type charger.

Pull the wheels and coat the rotors with oil to prevent rusting.

remove the brake pads.

coat the hoses with a rubber protectant. do not wipe off.

That's what I'd do for real long-term storage. Other people may want to add, subtract or refute my suggestions. Feel free.
