Ghost in the Machine, electrical woes 200 1986

Here's one for you. This evening I'm driving along and had to slam on my brakes, emergency style. Of course this is no problem for the 240. But this time when I slammed on the brakes my headlights went out. All lights, dash, running, brake and headlights. If I set the light switch to the running (middle) position all of the aforementioned work, except of course the headlights. When I then switch to full on position, nothing. The third brake light is not affected either way, it keeps working. I also noticed that my brights will not stay on. To get home I just held the brights lever back and drove. I'm stuck, I even went into a large parking lot and drove fast and slammed on the brakes, in hopes of perhaps reversing what ever damage these gremlins have caused.
