Air Control Valve on CI Vehicle? 200 84

Good Evening all, just noticed something and Maybe I am just confused, which it really wouldn't suprise me and all.

Have an 84 (MAnu 12/83) 242 GLTi with 170K Miles on it.

Replaced the Air Control Valve (As Bentley Calls it) in 1998, or roughly some 30K Ago.

Today, I felt spirited and thought I would get after it, with the nice Thick air outside. Well upon doing so, I noticed that my car will not drop idle!!, it is stuck at 3000 RPM or so.

I looked in Bentley and they dont' mention one for the CI injection (Sec: 240-1). When you flip to the LH Injection (241-1) it shows one.

Now I konw that I don't have a hybrid here, or do I? Volvo charged me some $300 to replace it, as THen I had no clue about the board.

As a side note, I can stick my hand to it and it pulses, but when I squeeze the wires etc it calmed down. It is more intermittent than anything else.

Would blame it on the Wiring harness, but I had it replaced in 97. Thought maybe vacuum hoses, but I have replaced all those 6 mos ago. (There are alot!!, I mean ALOT!! on this wonderful car).

I would like to take it out or bypass it, seeing how Bentley doesn't mention it, but does anyone else have any ideas on how to further check it or even better, get to it, without pulling the intake manifold?

Thank you for your help.

David
