Maybe they're on the level usually, but it sounds like they meant to say:

"You're not gonna BELIEVE how we f-ed up your car and are trying to make you THINK we did it on purpose!"

The 'puter has nothing to do with the shift points. Not a thing.

The shift control cable does. Either they adjusted it (why?) or screwed it up somehow. Often the sheath around the cable is rotten. Check it out... the thing that goes from the little throttle wheel back and down towards the transmission.
