Gauges instalation 200 1981

Help help!!

I am having a problem, I cant figure out how to install the oil pressure gauge and the temp gauge (outside temp). I was going to hook up the oil pressure gauge to the oil light, but the wire on the motor was fried so I ran a new one into the car. All the gauge does when the car is running is shoot to the max bars. I have tried both gauges with the 3 bars and the 5 bars both do the same thing.
