960 Overheating 900 1996

The wife came home tonite and said that the electric fan was running after she stopped the car. I, of course, asked if it was running hot. She said she'd go out and check and the temp needle was in the red. After I got home and checked there is enough oil and coolant. It runs for a few minutes of driving then the temp spikes to the red zone.

Any ideas? Where would you start for a diagnosis?
