Turn signals on older 740's 700 86

I was thinking the other day while I had my turn signal on in my 86 745, and could see my reflection in the car in front of me. I wondered why only the turn signals below the lights blinked when there were also turn signals to the sides of the headlights, like in my 240.

So, i popped the hood and checked out those turn signals. It was hard to tell, but I think a bulb could go in there, but there is no wiring for it. I've visited the parts sites and i think that the 90+ models have working signals. Has anyone modded their volvo to use these two reflectors as signals in addition to the signals below the headlights? What does that involve?

Thanks,

Nathan
