Thump/sputter/flop 140-160 73

Just finished an invigorating Saturday wrestling the new transmission mount into place on the 145. Seems to have worked out well. Thank god for whomever invented the jack. Next three issues:

-- I've got some sort of vibration/thumping noise. Seems to be coming from the area in front of the passenger seat. It is not apparently related to rpm or clutch engagement. Sounds a little like a helicopter blade. The driveline support 1.) Makes a siren sound or a whir and 2.) is rpm dependent, right? So my guess is the exhaust pipe is hitting the floor. Seem reasonable? How to cure this?

-- The engine is unhappy when cold and tends to sputter out at stop signs, during the shift to second, or under load in second. It also seems to need choke -- about half-out -- till the temp gauge hits 9 o'clock. I figured the first steps are the standard tune-up stuff, points, condenser, plugs. Or does this sound like something else? When it's warm it runs smoothly.

-- At one point today I noticed that the gas pedal was suddently dead. Discovered that the rod that the throttle rotates on the SUs had flopped out of its pivot near the firewall -- there was nothing holding it in. I assume this can't be right.

Any answers and conjectures accepted with gratitude.
