SEATBELT Help... 200 1986

Hello, just purchased a 1986 244 and I have a couple questions, since I know nothing about the car. First of all front seatbelts are driving me nuts. In irder for them to work they have to be "inched out" slowly. They keep on catching so you have to let it in a little and then pull again. Needless to say this has become very annoting very quickly, it takes 5 minutes to ge tthe seatbelt on. I called a couple places and one said that it would need parts the other one said the whole seatbelt and components woud need to be replaced. Ok so is this common? and what is the solution? What kind of cost am I looking at if I do need to get them repaired? thank you for your time and help.....
