Questions about V8 Conversion 140-160 1973

I have tried looking in the archives but i got quite lost easily. I was thinking about putting something around a 302 or what was the other one 283 something like that? some ford engine, i dont much care to go all the way up to something as big as a 350. Either way. I was just wondering at first if its even possible to convert a 1973 145, and if so what all would i need to replace. I cant decide if i want to go 4 speed or 5 speed for the transmission, it currently has the 4, but the synchros are all noisy. Either way
