Hey everyone
Our 86 started poorly and had a very dirty throttle body so I thouroughly cleaned it. The car still starts hard and won't idle without pumping the pedal lightly till the engine is warm. Once warm the car runs by itself but idles rough. I had an emission test by Missouri's emission program. Here are the numbers along with 2 of our other cars for comparison.
Theo86 240 which starts hard and idles poorly. (HC .3639) (CO 1.0674) NOx .3070) (CO2 114.74)
Our other 86 240 which is running good. (HC .1058) (CO .7121) (NOx .2019) (CO2 35.77)
Our 87 740 which always runs good. (HC .0305) 12 times less than our problem car (CO .2042) 5 times less than mr problem (NOx .1502) one half of our problem car and finally (CO2 34.10) about one third of the 86 240 which idles so poorly.
I am used to seeing HC readings in a format such as 100 or 150 or 220 or all the way up to 600 for cars 25 years old. So these HC numbers on our test print out from our state emission program look unfamilar to me. Such as .0305, .1058 and .3639. I am sure that thses numbers do not mean 305, 1058 and 3639.
I am used to seeing CO readings in the format of 1.2 all the way up to 6.0 for cars made in the 1970's. So it is possible that the state readings of .2042, .7121 and 1.0674 are in the format I am used to seeing in the past. Provided you can have a 14 year old 700 series with a reading of .2042 or simply a .2 CO which sounds really low.
So any help in diagnosing the poor starting, hard idling 86 240 with the above readings would be most wonderful.
If any one can reconcile the 2 different HC test formats that would be a bonus.
Thanx as always
