Exhaust Gases 200 1983

I am having a problem with the exhaust gas(es)from my 83' DL Wagon. They have a very rich smell (unburned gasoline) that about makes your eyes water and head swirl.

I changed the oxygen sensor and it seemed to help for a short time (used part off an 84') but things still aren't right. Could the cold start valve be the problem? The car starts easy when cold (now getting that way in Montana) but after it warms up the idle is too high. Or could it be a problem with leaky fuel injectors, or the cold start valve timer, and/or the temperature sensor. Lot's of cards yet to play, which one should I draw first?

TIA Bill Nicholson
