big tach models 200 89

did anyone ever figure out the differences in the 240 tachs between the thru-88 and the since '89 types? i know that if you interchange them they will work and read correctly, but i'm retrofitting and i'd like to know i have the proper one (redline etc.). alternatively, anybody with an '89 model with a tach, describe to me in detail your tach's markings. someone out there must know the diff.
