Erratic and shuttering rough IDLE problem solved 700 86

Hi fellows!

Since a long time I had the problem, that the car runs very rough on idle. Tune-up, new sparkplugs and new distributor made only slight improvements. The problem is the belt which drives the generator. !!

Recently I thought I should improve the generator mount. It was out-of alignment. And also the belt should be replaced.

So I got an original volvobelt. When I removed the old belt I see that it is a nonvolvo part and the width is too small. This cause the belt slipping in the pulley. The generator has not enough power/volt/Ah.

The pulley is almost polished.

So in replacing the belt, make sure not only the length is important, also the width is very important. Now my idle is very very smooth. Inside you can't hear the engine running in idle.

Also make sure the belt-tension is correct.

Good luck
