Yeah, it is a bit confusing for sure. Are there any other car makes out there that also use the Constant Idle System (and that particular terminology). I'd never heard that phrase until I cracked my Volvo manual. My guess is others use it too (like VW), but I don't know for sure.

When I first got my car, it didn't start when it was really cold outside. It would run when you could get it started with no problem....but after 20 minutes of sitting with the engine off, it couldn't be started again. The trouble was with the "residual" fuel pressure (I think that is the right term). If I plugged the return hose and cranked the ignition to build pressure, then it would start and then quickly stall. But then I could unplug the return and start it up fine.

Anyway, I took apart the fuel system and found a fuel pressure regulator that looked a little scared; so I turned the FPR piston 180 degrees inside the FPR housing, put everything back together, (threw away the extra bolts I had left when I was done ;^) ), and it's started and run well ever since.

Another problem is that it's idle was poor. I found that someone had rigged the hose between the aux air valve and intake (downstream of the aux air valve) with a smaller diameter tub. When I replaced it with the correct "junkyard" part, I had to turn down idle adjustment knob and it worked great.
