Tailgate rewire/seatbelt woes 200 1981

Hello all,

Two (unrelated) questions:

I am in the process of executing a re-wire fix for the tailgate wiring harness problem (I'm following some instructions that I found at http://brickparts.d--r.com/tailgate.htm). In step 5, I am to pull the wires, which have just been cut from where they enter the hinge, from the passenger side back toward the center in order to re-route them to the other side. But here's the thing: I seem to have 2 sets of wires, each of which has its own plastic sleeve lying across the roof. there's a pair with a black and a grey, and another pair with a blue and a yellow, if memory serves. I guess it would help me to know what each of these wires goes to--do I need to re-route both sets to the other side? The instructions are a bit less than clear about this. Don't worry--I haven't cut any wires yet.

Second question: Among the many other wonderful traits of character and personality that my beloved volvo has developed as it ages ever so gracefully is that the driver's seatbelt is now very difficult to pull off of the roll where it is stored while retracted without the safety mechanism locking up. You have to pull ever so slowly and gently, bit by little bit, until enough length has been pulled out to buckle up. Aside from being a big pain in the arse, this is a bit of a safety hazard, I'm sure, as I'm usually trying to deal with this while in the early stages of my journey--sometimes it takes a while! It seems to me that there's no easy way to get at the dispensing mechanism, short of pulling off the door trim and that plastic piece that covers the post between the front and rear doors. I would love to learn that I am wrong about this. But even if I am not, how can I fix it?

Third question: the driver's side window (power windows) has become rather tempermental as well. I've a suspicion that the the switch needs to be replaced -- I know that IPD sells the switches, but how does one remove/install them? And also, the window itself goes up very slowly indeed, when it does consent to go up, that is. I've looked in my manuals, and the window regulator mechanisms look quite complicated. is this an easy adjustment, or do I likely need a new motor, or what's the typical scenario here?

Thanks very much,

Stephen Buckley
