16valve. Was great, now won't start????? 700 89

The car: 1989 740 16 valve wagon. Head just rebuilt due to bent valves. Major work done. Much $$$ invested. Car was running great after I put it all back together and got it in time. After about a week (and 50 miles) the car began to make a knocking noise. I started the car to listen to it and try to locate the noise-it sounded like it was around the distributor (?). When the car got warmed up, the noise went away. With this, I decided to drive the car to the bank (about 5 miles each way) and when I got home the car lost power and when I came to a stop, stalled. There was no smoke, no clunk, no thump, no unusual noise what so ever. The car was running great, then just stopped. Not cool. Car has spark. Car is getting fuel. Air filter is new. I pulled the timing cover to have a look under there, and the cams had advanced one full tooth. Not sure what's going on, but I know that the B234f is surely not as mechanic friendly as my trusty old B20. :-) ANY input will be VERY appreciated. Thanks in advance.
