Thank you all for replying to my message.

About a week ago I had a problem with my standard transmission overdrive (5th gear) on my 740 Volvo. The overdrive option was engaging from all possible gears (even reverse) when it is only supposed to engage in the 4th gear. I just thought I would send

you a message back telling you how I fixed the problem. The problem

was found in a wire coming from the overdrive switch.

The insulation surrounding the wire had torn off leaving some of the wire actually bare. This bare wire was touching the chaissy and therefore was grounded causing the 5th gear problem. I replaced the wire and the overdrive now shifts into 5th gear properly.
