Heater Box Sealant woes 200 1990

Greetings, I am in the middle of that lovely job of installing a new heater core in my '90 245. Lots of fun and bark off the knuckles!

I noticed when spliting the heater box in half that there a white latex-silicone sealant around the bottom and various other places.

I checked out NAPA and a another local parts store for something that wasn't as sticky or permenant as regular silicone sealant. It seems that the Volvo stuff can pull apart easy if need be in the future. There is a Volvo part number in the Bentley manual but when I called the dealer they only sell at $116 a pail! I only need a little! Any suggestions for a more suitable sealant?? Duck
