having owned just about every model volvo made i have a lot of insite into making these cars live.living in conn, rust is the devil never let your guard down.lubriplate oils makes a killer rust stopper, first use (chain and cable fluid)part #lo135-063 as a base or carrier oil then use (gear shield extra heavy)part #lo152-063
. this combo is the deal to stop rust.when i pick up my volvo "project car" the first thing i do is to spray down all seams and boxed areas so they can be absorbing oil.next remove the interior panels and seating, about an hours work but worth the effort.i searched long for my 245 but i found a solid rust free never crashed oregon car,i was in long life heaven when i opened up factory closed pannels!i went after the cowl drain problem area(this is what rots out your floors in older volvo,s)and put a no flap hose on it to dump any moisture build up.pulling every plastic body hole plug in volvo,s gives you great access to its framework,(replace after double spraying).rear wheel areas should be sprayed at both access holes on rear door access and even more so thru the inside over the fender wheel well area.the rear wheel well seams in the upper edge of the arch should drip and ooze both weight spray oils.the doors are very easy to spray with the panels off and the combo/oils i use will stop rust for good.i use plastic roofing cement on the underside in the " clean " areas that won,t trap moisture.at every oil change i don,t hesitate to"touch up'any area that needs it with heavy cable spray,,i love this stuff.my car is also ipd front to back, got a question? give me a shout good luck pete lena
